Today we pretty much hung out at Eureka - which is where we are camped - Here is what 'Old Eureka' looke like as a mining town. Eureka is about 9 miles from Silverton. Very easy to get to by any kind of vehicle.
We have camped here so many times in the past, it is still hard to picture a large thriving town where your tent/Rv is sitting. They said that this whole area was quite the forest as well, but they had to cut down trees to build the homes, stores etc. There are still some old ruins here and I will get some pics up of those as well. I probably already have some of those pics from times passed. So, see, now you will have to come back and see if I have updated this page :)
Below is what the 'town' looks like today ... this was taken as we were coming back home from Animas Fork, which is about 5 miles away. This is taken from the opposite end from the blk and wht photo.
This picture was taken as we got closer to 'home' and you can see more clearly where we were camped.
We are the RV with the blue Dodge truck out in front :)
Here we are, up close and personal.
These 3 pics were actually taken the day before we moved on to the other camp area on the other side of Silverton.
I guess you could say we got ourselves settled in today ... making sure we had all set up for the comforts of home :) ... it started raining mid day, then from there it went into hailing for about 10 min - just small ones, but still, within 20 min the temp dropped 24 degrees - from 72 to 48- but then it climbed back up into the lower 60s.
Here is a picture showing what it look liked when it was hailing - the still pic isa bit blurry trying to get the hail ... but you get the idea :)
